One of us, for all of us

Laura Jones is a lifelong Texan, Army mom, small business owner, and proud working class American who has seen firsthand the challenges facing everyday people. Here are some of her stances:

 

Affordability & Living Wage: The cost of just about everything—from groceries to gas to housing—has skyrocketed while wages stay flat. Working families are being squeezed from every direction, and it's time we built an economy that actually works for the people who keep this country running. The minimum wage has been stagnant since 2009, and it's long past time for change. We should not only raise it, but tie it to the cost of living. Anyone working 40 hours a week should be able to afford the bare essentials where they live—a roof over their head, water, gas, electricity, and food.

 

Medicare for All: Healthcare is a basic human right, not a privilege tied to a job or the size of a paycheck. The only real way to bring down costs is to guarantee care for everyone by expanding and improving Medicare for All. That means cutting out the insurance middlemen who profit off people being sick and finally allowing the government to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices and fair medical costs.

 

Lowering Taxes for the 99%: Working families are already paying their fair share and then some. It's time to lower taxes for the 99%—the people who actually work, raise families, and power our economy—by making sure billionaires and massive corporations finally pay what they owe.

 

Taxing Billionaires and Corporations: For too long, billionaires and large corporations have rigged the system to pay less than their fair share while working families pick up the tab. It's time they paid what they owe—so we can invest in affordable housing, good schools, and the infrastructure working class communities actually need.
