A Disappointing Alumnus

ree

In 2011, Sam Houston State University gave Morgan Luttrell its Outstanding Young Alumnus award.

I'm sure that young Morgan was happy to be so recognized by his professors, but he did not reciprocate after he was elected to the US Congress.

What??? No goodies for his old school?! How so?

Well, think about it: Who voted for Trump's big, ugly bill? And who supports Trump policies 100% -- including the Department of Education shut-down?

Uh... that would be Morgan Luttrell.

Trump's federal funding cuts have already had an impact on Sam Houston State University (SHSU), particularly in areas like student financial aid and research funding, such as...

Pell Grant Cuts:

Pell Grants are a major source of financial aid for low-income students. Fewer and smaller grants will have an impact on many Texas college students, including those at SHSU. Expect reduced financial assistance and potentially lower enrollment for young people who rely on this assistance.

Research Funding Reductions:

Federal funding will be cut for many types of research in Texas universities, including SHSU. Health care studies will be especially hard hit. Net result: project delays and staffing reductions.

Operational Challenges:

The pull-back in federal funding will make it harder for SHSU to maintain operational efficiency and recruit quality faculty.

Since this is an article about education, let's finish up with a question about the lessons learned:

How did Morgan Luttrell go from being an honored alumnus to the funding cutter of his own alma mater?

Welcome to Republican politics.
