Character and Class

I’ve never met Jessica Hart Steinmann, but I know her type, and would likely be quite comfortable in her presence. We come from the same social class, or so I believe.
If you told me that her father is or was a lawyer, and that her mother is or was an interior designer, I wouldn’t be that surprised. BUT – if you said the same about Laura’s parents, I would be astonished.
My bet is: the two candidates come from two different socio-economic backgrounds. (Again, this is all conjecture. I don’t know Steinmann at all, and I’ve never discussed Laura’s upbringing with her.)
Anyway, let me take a wild guess:
Jessica comes from a well-educated, upper-middle class background, and Laura’s family is strictly working class.
Those environments shaped both women. For example, you can see the differences in campaign photos that both routinely post on Facebook. Jessica poses with managers and executives; i.e., they are well-to-do people who run things. And yes, they are almost all white.
Laura shows pictures of her meeting with church groups, community activists, and well-wishers from every type of cultural background. These are people who wear comfortable clothes that were purchased from Walmart three years ago.
See the difference? Can you FEEL the difference? Now I ask you:
Who is more REPRESENTATIVE of MOST people in District 8?
Let me close by telling you how I happen to know Laura Jones. A LONG time ago, my wife and I hired her to clean our house. That was the business she was in.
I liked her immediately. I thought she was a sharp, young woman who had an interesting life ahead of her. From time to time, we’d chat about politics, but I never dreamed she’d run for office.
So, let me ask one more question: Can you picture Jessica Hart Steinmann CLEANING HOUSES? Well, maybe as a teenager, although even that is unlikely. But as an adult? NEVER! Her white, privileged background would rule that out completely.
Laura’s parents gave her character, but not much in terms of material well-being. Everything she has was built and developed by working her rear-end off. Nobody handed her anything.
Unlike me… and unlike lawyer Jessica Steinmann. I was handed a lot, and that’s why I know where Jessica is coming from. She’s the person who described herself this way on X: “Jessica Steinmann has gone toe-to-toe with the woke left her entire career”.
Enough said. Who do you want to represent YOU?
