Healthcare: Jones vs. Steinmann

Laura Jones
Laura Jones

Laura Jones has a position on healthcare, and I can state it for you in a single sentence: She supports "Medicare for All", and will vote FOR it... if you give her the chance.

And what about her political opponent, Lawyer Jessica Steinmann? What does SHE have to say about the affordability of healthcare in our country?

Well, here is a direct quote from her website page, entitled "On the Issues":

""

That is not a typo; that is literally what she has to say about healthcare, as of this writing. Go ahead and check out her website if you don't believe me. Search the Issues page  for any of the following words or phrases: Doctor bills, hospital visits, prescription drugs, etc ,etc. You won't find a thing.

Now, let me get personal for a moment. I am 77 years-old. Believe me when I tell you: Medicare is a GOOD thing. I'm grateful for it every time I see my doctor or visit a pharmacy. If you don't have Medicare, you have my sympathies.

So... why does Lawyer Steinmann stay quiet on this subject? I'll bet you know why. Donald Trump doesn't want to discuss out-of-control medical costs, and even if he did, he has no idea what to do about the problem. Given that situation, I guess that it's best to keep your lips zipped.

But let's not leave "On the Issues"  prematurely! Attorney Jess has plenty to say about other important matters, right there on that same page...

1. Transgender operations for children. (She's not in favor of them.)

2. Keeping boys out of girl's sports. (She supports that.)

3. Law & Order. (She "...fought alongside President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi".)

So, in other words, Legal Eagle Steinmann has no comment on one of the most pressing crises of our time.

I'll close with a few words from Chris Tomlinson, an award-winning columnist for the Houston Chronicle. Chris has been around for a long time and knows our state  as well as anyone. Here's a direct quote from a recent essay that he wrote:

"Texas has the nation’s highest uninsured rate, limited access to medical professionals and severely overworked doctors."

After reporting on some recent research by the Commonwealth Fund, Chris summarized their findings this way:

"When it comes to obtaining healthcare, white Texans ranked 49th in the nation, Hispanics ranked 44th, and Black Texans ranked 38th."

In other words, we're not in good shape here.

I REPEAT:

Laura Jones supports "Medicare for All".
