Medicaid and SNAP

Morgan Luttrell cast a YES vote for the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, yet recently released, nonpartisan polls show that many Americans dislike it.

Even Fox News found that 38% of registered voters support the “One Big Beautiful Bill” based on what they know about it, while 59% oppose it.

Why are so many voters opposed to the legislation that Luttrell supported?

Both House and Senate versions of the bill kicked millions of people off health insurance via the largest Medicaid cuts in history. Both ripped nutrition assistance away from millions of households via the largest SNAP cuts in history. And both called for trillions of dollars’ worth of tax cuts aimed THE RICHEST Americans — cuts so large that the nation’s deficit would increase by trillions over the next decade.

In Texas Congressional District 8, approximately 12.0% of the population under 65 receives Medicaid coverage, and 28.2% of children under 19 are enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP, according to Georgetown University analysts. This means at least 53,000 Medicaid enrollees are living in our district.

And what about the SNAP program (formerly known as Food Stamps)? The most recent data we have comes from the US Census Bureau, as of 2021. The Census counted 273,518 households in our district. 32,650 of those households (11.9%) received SNAP assistance.

All of those people are going to be hurt by the “Big Beautiful Bill”, yet this is what your elected representative supported.

Is that what YOU voted for?
