The Kevin Brady Bunch

I have a theory that I'd like to share with you. For starters, consider this question that I asked Mr. Google:

"Was the oil and gas industry the largest contributor to the campaign funding of former US Congressman Kevin Brady?" (For those who are new here: Kevin Brady was District 8's Congressional Representative prior to the election of Morgan Luttrell.)

Here's the AI overview that Google returned:

>> Yes, the oil and gas industry was the largest contributor to the career campaign funding of former US Congressman Kevin Brady. According to data tracked by OpenSecrets, during his career in the US House of Representatives (1995–2022), the oil and gas sector contributed approximately $2,134,386 to his campaigns. <<

OK, that is Fact #1. Now here is strange Fact #2:

As RollCall.com reported last September: "Texas Rep. Morgan Luttrell announced Thursday that he won’t seek a third term next year, saying the floods that devastated his state earlier this summer led him to conclude that “Texas is where I belong.”

Many, many people responded with a collective "Hunh?" His stated reason for stepping down just didn't make sense. Sure, it's great to spend more time with your family, but usually that reason is code for something much deeper; namely: "I lost my source of support" or "I was fired".

And last but not least, here is Fact #3: Republicans are hoping to replace Morgan Luttrell with a female lawyer who has MAGA credentials.

So, here's my theory: Oil and gas supported Kevin Brady for many years, and he rose to great prominence within the House of Representatives. Then he retired, and Republicans replaced him with a rough-hewn ex-soldier who needed a shave. He wasn't exactly their type, but he was right for the times... and he got elected.

Now let's move down the road four years, as we remember the words that Bob Dylan once sang: "The times they are a-changin'". The Republicans can see that Trump's era has only two years left, AT BEST.

Are the oil executives still interested in that big, unshaven lunk, Morgan Luttrell? No, they are not! They have pivoted to the much smoother, corporate style of Jessica Steinmann.

Ooo! She's perfect! Not only will she give them all the legislation they want, she's a SHE! And a lawyer to boot.

Could you get a better candidate to oppose that regular-type Democrat person? What's her name? That... that Laura Jones? Oh, hell no! ("She won't even take our money!")
